The Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic has prepared a draft law on the provision of data for the purpose of targeted energy assistance, which was approved by the Government of the Slovak Republic at its meeting on Wednesday, 12 March 2025. The approved draft law regulates the conditions for providing data on households that use energy - electricity, gas, heat and water. This data is key to identifying households that will receive targeted energy assistance.
"At a time when we are facing rising energy costs, our priority is to ensure that we are helping the most vulnerable households. That is why we are working to ensure that targeted energy assistance is as automated as possible and that we minimise the burden on citizens to go to the authorities. Today's bill defines the necessary data exchange between the Slovak Finance Administration and the Ministry of the Economy of the Slovak Republic, between the registers of the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic, the Cadastre and the Social Insurance Institution, so that we can gradually set up the process of paying targeted assistance to the most vulnerable households," said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Economy of the Slovak Republic Denisa Saková.
The new bill regulates the way in which data on households that use electricity, gas, heat and water is collected and processed. This information is needed to determine which households are eligible for targeted government assistance. This is a response to the current unfavourable situation in the European energy market.
The bill also reflects the experience of the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic in providing assistance to vulnerable customers in the years 2023 to 2025, while also responding to the consequences of the military conflict in Ukraine and the disruption of gas supplies through Ukraine.
