Slovakia and Uzbekistan strengthen economic relations: Minister of Economy Denisa Sakova held talks with the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan

Vytvorené dňa: 08.07.2025      Aktualizované dňa: 08.07.2025

During the meeting, the two ministers discussed opportunities for cooperation in the fields of nuclear and renewable energy, water management, and industrial investment. This meeting formed part of an official visit by a Uzbek government delegation to Slovakia with the aim of deepening economic cooperation. An important item on the agenda was the Slovak-Uzbek Business Forum, which was attended by 23 Slovak companies aiming to open up new business opportunities.

„Slovakia and Uzbekistan have long maintained stable trade relations. Uzbekistan is our second largest trading partner in Central Asia after Kazakhstan, with bilateral trade reaching an all-time high of €65.9 million last year. Our goal is to further strengthen cooperation in key areas such as energy, transport infrastructure, industry and agriculture," said Economy Minister Denisa Sakova.

One of the key topics discussed at the meeting was cooperation in nuclear energy. Uzbekistan plans to build a new nuclear power plant in the Navoi region, and Slovakia is offering its know-how regarding the operation and safety of nuclear power plants. „Slovakia is one of the leaders in nuclear energy in Europe. We have over 60 years of experience in constructing, operating and decommissioning nuclear power plants. We would be delighted to share our expertise and support Uzbekistan in implementing safe and efficient nuclear solutions,“ stressed Denisa Sakova. Slovakia also offered the expertise of JAVYS and VUJE, who have extensive experience in the research, design, and management of nuclear facilities.

A key part of the visit was the Slovak-Uzbek Business Forum, attended by 23 Slovak companies showcasing solutions in energy, water management, infrastructure, industry, and innovation. The aim was to identify new business opportunities and establish partnerships with Uzbek enterprises and state institutions. Minister Denisa Sakova emphasised that Slovakia actively supports its companies expanding into the Uzbek market, with several already operating in strategic sectors. Examples include MicroStep-MIS, which is implementing hydrometeorology and airport modernisation projects, and plans to participate in the tender for renovating 12 Uzbek airports, as well as AZC, which is preparing a project to produce railway cargo wagons in Uzbekistan.  "Our goal is to create stable conditions for Slovak companies in Uzbekistan and support them in developing long-term investments and business partnerships. The forum is an excellent opportunity to bring together Slovak and Uzbek companies, identify new projects, and strengthen bilateral cooperation," said Denisa Sakova.

The Agreement between the Government of the Slovak Republic and the Government of Uzbekistan on Economic Cooperation, which establishes the Slovak-Uzbek Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation, was signed in 2024. The first meeting of the Commission is scheduled to take place in Tashkent in April 2025.

„The Slovak-Uzbek Commission will coordinate key areas of cooperation, promote investment, and create favourable conditions for companies on both sides. We believe that this will contribute to the further deepening of economic relations," said Economy Minister Denisa Sakova.
