Vytvorené dňa: 07.07.2025 Aktualizované dňa: 07.07.2025
From the end of 2024, gas and oil pipelines in the Slovak Republic will be under increased protection. The Slovak Republic's Ministry of Economy (MH), Ministry of the Interior (MV) and Armed Forces, together with other security forces, have increased protection of critical infrastructure in Slovakia. This announcement was made on Tuesday, 11 February 2025 at Kuchyna Airport by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of the Slovak Republic, Denisa Saková; the Minister of the Interior, Matúš Šutaj Eštok; and the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic, Daniel Zmeko. In this context, the Ministry of Economy presented several possible intervention scenarios that the Armed Forces are prepared to carry out in the event of a security breach. These measures are being taken in response to increased global security threats and escalating tensions in Europe.
"Critical points in our energy infrastructure have been identified and are currently under increased surveillance by the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic and other security units. The intensity of the deployment of forces and assets depends on intelligence information," said Minister D. Sakova during the briefing. "I would like to thank all the soldiers and security forces involved, as well as the towns and villages within the identified vulnerable areas for their cooperation in this operation. Protecting our critical infrastructure is in all our interests," she added D. Sakova.
Therefore, the army has introduced regular monitoring of key critical infrastructure in multiple modes, which is also in continuous operation and ready to intervene against individuals posing a threat to such infrastructure. Gas and oil pipelines are vital for the country's energy security. However, the Slovak Republic is also an important transit hub for energy resources between Eastern and Western Europe, and some of these facilities have long been considered strategically important.
