The competence over EXPO 2025 Osaka has been taken over by recently established Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Slovak Republic

At its session on Thursday 2 May 2024, the Government of the Slovak Republic agreed with taking over the EXPO world exhibitions competence by recently established Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Slovak Republic. The portfolio was taken away from the competence of the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic and the time limit for closing respective transfer of competence was set at 10 May 2024 at the latest. All the arrangements regarding the upcoming EXPO 2025 exhibition planned in Osaka in Japan will be made by the newly-established Ministry.
The official participation of the Slovak Republic at the EXPO 2025 Osaka world exposition was approved by the Government of the Slovak Republic on 5 October 2022 and with the effect from 1 January 2023 it appointed Mrs. Ivana Vala Magátová to become the Slovak Republic General Commissioner for the EXPO 2025 Osaka world exposition.
EXPO world expositions are international events aimed at presenting industry and culture of participating countries and they are officially organized by the Bureau of International Expositions (BIE). The events take place with the general aim of educating the public, promoting the progress and enhancing the cooperation. The BIE has 169 members, including Slovakia. In the line of history, Slovakia was present, in total, at eight (8) EXPO world exhibitions, naming these: EXPO 1993 Taejon (Korea), EXPO 1998 Lisbon (Portugal), EXPO 2000 Hannover (Germany), EXPO 2008 Zaragoza (Spain), EXPO 2010 Sanghai (China), EXPO 2015 Milano (Italy), EXPO 2017 Astana (Kazakhstan) and EXPO 2020 Dubai (United Arab Emirates).
