The second highest investment in the history of country is coming to Slovakia. It is worth EUR 1.2 billion and it focuses on battery production.

Slovakia secured another significant investment on electromobility. A joint undertaking of the Chinese Group Gotion and the Slovak Company InoBat plans to construct a battery production plant for electric vehicles in the Lower Nitra Region. The planned investment linked to the plant to be located in the town of Šurany amounts in total to an investment of EUR 1.2 billion. The investment will create 1.311 new jobs with wages higher than average in the region. In addition, the investor has committed to establish there a new research and development centre in order to increase the expertise of workers and the innovation potential of Slovakia. In general, the project represents a strategic investment that will contribute to the transformation of Slovak automobile industry.
“This investment is a significant milestone for Slovakia. It will strengthen Slovakia´s position in electromobility and it will create new jobs and promote professional development of our workers. We expect this cooperation to have a positive effect on our economy in the long term and it will also contribute to further development of the innovation potential of our country,” highlighted the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of the Slovak Republic Denisa Saková in connection with the importance of the investment for Slovakia.
At its extraordinary session held in Rimavská Sobota on Wednesday 19 June, the Government approved the status of a significant investment for the project and also the investment aid of EUR 214 million, including the EUR 150 million subsidy and the tax exemption of EUR 64 million. Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic believes that the investment in question will enhance an economic development of Slovakia and will contribute to increase its innovation potential.
The Gotion is a pioneer in energy batteries, being also the first company in this industry that entered the capital market in China. It specialises in the development and production of batteries for vehicles and in the transfer, distribution and storage of energy. The Gotion operates 14 gigafactories with a total capacity exceeding 100 GWh and it had a global turnover of EUR 3.9 billion in 2023. There are important partners of Gotion, such as the Volkswagen Group, for which the Gotion has developed a specific product “Unified Cell”, planned for usage in some 80% of Volkswagen vehicles.
The InoBat is a Slovak company that focuses on research, development and production of electric batteries and it operates its own research and development centre in Voderady located near the town of Trnava. The InoBat cooperates with important investors and partners, such as Rio Tinto, Gotion and Amara Raja. It has also developed an active cooperation with Slovak universities.
