The second highest investment in the history of country is coming to Slovakia. It is worth EUR 1.2 billion and it focuses on battery production.
Slovakia secured another significant investment on electromobility. A joint undertaking of the Chinese Group Gotion and the Slovak Company InoBat plans to construct a battery production plant for electric vehicles in the Lower Nitra Region. The planned investment linked to the plant to be located in the town of Šurany amounts in total to an investment of EUR 1.2 billion. The investment will create 1.311 new jobs with wages higher than average in the region. In addition, the investor has committed to establish there a new research and development centre in order to increase the expertise of workers and the innovation potential of Slovakia. In general, the project represents a strategic investment that will contribute to the transformation of Slovak automobile industry. read more >>

Slovakia will strengthen economic and trade cooperation with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. At its meeting on 29 May 2024 and acting at the proposal of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of the Slovak Republic Denisa Saková, the Government of the Slovak Republic approved General Agreement on the Cooperation between the Government of the Slovak Republic and the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. read more >>

A working meeting held between R. Fico and D. Saková: We plan to build a new nuclear reactor under the state ownership
Slovakia will have on its territory another nuclear reactor. Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic Robert Fico and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of the Slovak Republic Denisa Saková revealed the news on Monday 13 May 2024 after their working discussions at the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic. The largest-ever nuclear unit is to be built at the site of nuclear power plant operating in Jaslovské Bohunice. It will have an expected output of up to 1,200 megawatt-hours (MWh), while current nuclear blocks operating across Slovakia reach the output of some 500 MWh. read more >>

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of the Slovak Republic Denisa Saková opened the Business Forum held on Tuesday 7 May 2024 in Baku while also taking part in formal negotiations on gas supplies from Azerbaijan to Slovakia. In addition to the diversification of gas supplies to Slovakia, Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic in collaboration with the Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency (SARIO) prepared a Business Mission aimed at developing bilateral relations with countries that have a high economic potential. A group of entrepreneurs engaged in fields of engineering, tourism and information and communication technologies, focused on cooperation between Slovak and Azerbaijani companies. read more >>

The competence over EXPO 2025 Osaka has been taken over by recently established Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Slovak Republic
At its session on Thursday 2 May 2024, the Government of the Slovak Republic agreed with taking over the EXPO world exhibitions competence by recently established Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Slovak Republic. The portfolio was taken away from the competence of the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic and the time limit for closing respective transfer was set at 10 May 2024 at the latest. All the arrangements regarding the upcoming EXPO 2025 exhibition planned in Osaka in Japan will be made by the newly-established Ministry. read more >>

Minister of Economy Saková discussed the possibilities of gas transport to Slovakia from the Caspian Region
On Wednesday 10 April 2024, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of the Slovak Republic Denisa Saková met with the Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan Mikayil Jabbarov. Also, Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic Robert Fico attended the meeting, which addressed the possibilities of gas transport to Slovakia from the Caspian Region. Beyond this, discussions focused on enhancing trade cooperation between the two countries, promotion of mutual investments and preparations for the first session of the Joint Slovak-Azerbaijani Work Group on Cooperation in Economy. read more >>

The European Commission has today officially approved an investment aid in favour of Volvo Cars Slovakia that will create some 3,300 jobs in eastern Slovakia
On Monday 8 April 2024, the European Commission officially approved a state investment aid in favour of Volvo Cars Slovakia that carries out its investment in the State Industrial Park in Valaliky located near Košice. The approved aid marks a significant step in a successful implementation of the project. The investment will not only profoundly promote the development of eastern Slovakia, but will also create some 3 300 jobs in eastern Slovakia, while contributing to the transition of the Slovak automotive industry to electromobility. read more >>

Nuclear Energy is supposed to contribute in a significant way to ensuring sufficient energy and decarbonisation
At the first-ever Nuclear Energy Summit organized in Brussels, as many as 36 countries, including China, India and USA, addressed the irreplaceable importance of nuclear energy in ensuring sufficient energy for a common consumption and also for industry. In their discussions, the countries highlighted also the irreplaceable role of nuclear energy in the transition from fossil fuels. Financing modalities of construction of new nuclear sources and a possible lifetime extension of existing reactors were among issues debated at the summit. In this connection, France has taken an initiative aimed at involving multilateral institutions, such as the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development or their equivalents from Asia or America, to a greater extent, in financing these projects. read more >>

Amendments to Energy Laws bring strengthening of consumer rights and protection in the energy sector and the transfer of powers to ÚRSO in the field of state supervision
Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic elaborated extensive amendments to four basic energy laws that mainly take account of the experience from the application practice. Amendments to the energy laws bring about clearer invoices for consumers and extension of powers and new control competences for the Regulatory Office for Network Industries (ÚRSO), which means its stronger position. At the same time, ÚRSO obtains new powers from the Slovak Trade Inspection (SOI) in the field of state supervision. In addition to this, there are changes in exercising the ways of price regulation and regarding provisions relating to the imposition of obligations in the general economic interest. Amendments will also make it easier to connect renewable sources. Amendments to the energy laws are proposed to enter into force as of 1 July 2024, following the approval by the Slovak Parliament. read more >>
